Neutral Boho Living Room Decor

If you've been loving the Boho interior design style, so have I. I absolutely love the look of a room that is decorated with soft, neutral, natural colours, tones and materials.

The Mood Board:

Here I have gathered a selection of products and items that will fit beautifully into your Boho living room decor. I had a lot of fun sourcing these products, and had to refrain from buying all of them for our own home!

Because this look has been created with neutral colours, purchasing one or two items and combining them with your existing furniture will very likely work nicely. Design style-wise, I would personally avoid mixing these items into an Art Deco setup. Otherwise, any item within this mood board will fit in either modern, contemporary, midcentury, coastal, or even in an industrial decor style.

Where to shop for:

Wall art | This beautiful piece of art was made by the very talented artist Alicia Gilmour. She specializes in reclaimed wood art and is located on Vancouver Island. To have a look at her work, visit her Instagram account: aliciadeegilmour.

Sofa | A modern, sophisticated (AND comfortable) sofa in colour gravel. I quite like the slim frame of this sofa, with its solid wood legs.

Throw pillows | All pillows from this Boho mood board are from Crate and Barrel. I believe they have a great selection of - reasonably priced - trendy and high-quality pillows.

Rugs | The main area rug is made of 95% jute and 5% wool. It is handmade and will last you for a long time. I love the sand colour of this rug, and how it adds warmth to the room. The smaller round rug in ivory is also handcrafted and made of 100% jute.

Accent chair and poufs | The accent chair is made of woven rattan (I love rattan!) and has some neat matte black legs to give add a touch of modernity to it. The 2 cubic off-white poufs are handmade and add texture to this Boho decor. They can be used as casual seating or simply as ottomans. The handwoven round gray pouf is made of wool-melange yarns and also offers a nice textural effect. You can use it as footrest or casual seating.

Coffee table | This coffee table is constructed of solid acacia wood, finished in a warm chestnut brown. With its natural look and soft edges, this table fits beautifully into this Boho living room decor.

Cute and Romantic Valentine's Day Home Decor Ideas...
That will last year-round.

Delicious smelling candles, sweet sweet duvet covers, funky kitty yoga mat, beautiful wall art... This is what this interior design mood board is about. Oh, and also Valentine's Day.

Here's the thing. I do love decorating my house for the holidays. But I also have a really hard time throwing stuff away once the holiday is over. So I've picked items that will be able to remain in your house year-round, or that you can simply put away and reuse once Cupid makes his next appearance.

My Valentine's Day finds:

One of my favourite finds while creating this board is the yoga mats from Society6. To be honest, I didn't realize this company sold yoga mats, and they have so many amazing and fun options! Definitely worth looking into when you have a few minutes to spare.

As usual, Society6 had some pretty awesome wall art options to choose from. I picked some pictures that had a positive and sweet feel to them. The same idea applies to the throw pillow selection and the duvet cover on this mood board.

The beautiful soft pink wallpaper is called Windsong Pink Bird, from The Home Depot. It would look good in a baby's room, a powder room, or even an office. There's something about birds on wallpaper that just gets me!

The two hand-carved marble lovebirds are from a store called Indaba Trading. They have an amazing online selection of artistic and adorable decoration items.

And voila! You now have a variety of cute and long lasting shopping options for Valentine's Day.
As usual, always feel free to reach out to me with any questions or comments. :)

Happy Valentine's Day, and happy (sustainable) shopping!

Affordable Midcentury Modern Accent Chairs

A living room without an accent chair is like a dance party without music. At least that's how I feel!

I was browsing for a Midcentury Modern accent chair for a client of mine, and I was so thrilled about what I was finding, I thought I should share some of my discoveries with you.

Sure, there are many, many expensive accent chairs out there. Depending on what you're looking for (material, style, dimensions, etc.), the price range can vary greatly. But the good news is, most of the chairs I shared in this blog post are under $500.00 (yay!).

I've been loving the colour yellow lately, and I am personally quite drawn by the yellow Biggerstaff armchair, by George Oliver. Let me know which accent chair tickles your fancy the most in the comments! :)
9 Affordable Midcentury Modern Accent Chairs:
1. Zipcode Design Gray Dreer Tufted Barrel Chair: Elegant, simple and comfortable barrel chair from Zipcode Design. I love the simple look of this chair, with its wood legs and its plump cushion. Easy to include into any décor theme, really.
2. George Oliver Yellow Biggerstaff Armchair: Just a gorgeous yet simple accent chair. I picked the yellow one for this post, but it does come in 4 other colour options too. It appears this chair is easy to assemble and durable. From the vendor's description: "Made of solid wood frame and soft sponge, linen fabric cover make this chair durable, can serve you for a long time."
3. Mercury Row Ameer Armchair: I absolutely love the look of this armchair. With its sleek and clean lines, this chair will bring the MCM look of your living room to the next level. I personally like the creamy white (light gray) colour, however it also comes in a darker gray and a bright red.
4. Ivy Bronx Holbeach Black Tufted Armchair: A chair that has a more neutral, contemporary look to it. It's made of faux leather and comes in several different colour options. Its shape and style are very much Midcentury Modern inspired and would look great in either an office or living room.
5. White Faux Fur Everly Quinn Rickards Armchair: Not only this chair is fun, soft and fluffy, it also gets fantastic reviews! It will look good in any room of your house, really. Also comes in pink!
6. Rattan and Wood Esme Armchair: Rattan, rattan, and more rattan, please! Ok, I don't know about you, but I have a thing for a wood and rattan combination. This chair simply looks stunning. It comes in 8 different colour options, and also gets amazing reviews.
7. Citium Nestor Green Velvet Wingback Chair: A beautiful and bold statement accent chair. This green chair is a tad pricier than the other contenders on this list, but it won't disappoint. Oh, and it also gets great reviews.
8. Faux Leather Eaton Camel Tufted Lounge Chair: This chair is the perfect combination of stylish and functional. A durable chair in faux leather, with a Midcentury Modern-Industrial fusion look.
9. Dark Gray VEDBO Armchair: An elegant combination of the MCM and Scandinavian looks, in a soft, dark gray colour. It is said to be comfortable and durable. Once again, Ikea delivers a stylish, simple product of quality.
As always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

What Is Midcentury Modern Style?

Midcentury Modern is a design style that has been popular for a long time now, and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Originating from the 1950's, it's a design style that saw the light of day in the years following WW2. These were days when the economy and technology in America were booming. Creativity took centre stage, and new materials, new shapes and new colours emerged from this aspirational time. The midcentury Modern style is a style that was born in an era of hopes, dreams and ambitions.

The living room design I have selected to recreate also has a touch of industrial look to it. I love mixing design looks. When well executed, it can be a very creative and interesting way to design your space.
Get the Look!
Now, let's face it. Not everyone can afford top-of-the-line furniture for their home (even though it would be nice, wouldn't it?). We look at inspirational pictures online and in fancy magazines, and daydream about turning every single room in our own place into these stunning, stylish designs.

What if I told you there is a way? And by this, I mean... an affordable way?

This living room "Recreate the Look" board is a fantastic way to shop for affordable furniture and home décor accessories. I've carefully selected and put together quality items that are easily accessible. I've also included additional shopping options to fit your personal preferences and budget.

I really believe that each and every one of us should be able to live in a space that is inspiring and beautiful. As cliché as this may sound, home is where the heart is.
Where to Shop for:

A must-have when it comes to designing your Midcentury Modern living room is a tan leather sofa. Here are a few options for you to shop for:

Throw Pillows:
I don't know about you, but I love shopping for throw pillows! The look we are recreating only has one of them, but I decided to include a couple within the recreated look. When it comes to throw pillows, there aren't any hard rules on how many you should have. As long as the overall balance is respected, you're good to go!

Wall Art:
A highly important item to include within any design, and that is often overlooked: art. Picking the right art for your room will not only make it beautiful and alive, but it will also elevate your mood! This look has a couple of frames with a black and white surfing theme. I found some amazing options from Society6 to recreate this art theme:

Scandinavian Bedroom Shoppable Board
*Please note that this post contains affiliate links and any sales made through such links will reward me a small commission – at no extra cost for you. For more details, you can read my Terms and Conditions page.

This bedroom concept board includes some essential elements to create a successful Scandinavian-style bedroom. The combination of neutrals, mustard yellow and light navy blue really makes for an interesting, eye-catching Scandinavian décor. A blend of items that produces a calm and soothing Scandinavian look.

The products

I have selected this solid beech and engineered wood bed frame from West Elm, which has a typical Scandinavian light wood tone to it. An assortment of black and white throw pillows with geometric patterns have been chosen to pair with this 2" pile height (extra comfort for your toes when getting in and out of bed!) ivory Turkish area rug from Rugs.ca. As usual, I like to pick an accent throw pillow or two for a little "pop" effect, hence the velvet solid blue pillows from West Elm and the two silk pillows in sunflower yellow, from Crate and Barrel.

The accent chair, made with a rich birch wood frame and upholstered seating, brings warmth and coziness. When space allows, I always recommend having an accent chair in a bedroom. Another great way to add seating space to your bedroom is to place an ottoman or table at the end of the bed. In this case, I have selected a black coffee table from EQ3, which pairs with the stylish, black wall lights on each side of the bed.

This 7 drawer dresser from Crate and Barrel has been selected for storage and style purposes. It compliments nicely with the overall Scandi vibe of the room.

Lastly, the two black framed wall art pieces from Society6 accentuate the Scandinavian look and embellish beautifully this bedroom. Along with this indigo mountain landscape wall clock (also from Society 6), the art selection for this room makes for a very pleasing, lovely Scandinavian look.

I ensured to include some alternative product options, in the event of any product being unavailable or out of stock (a reality that comes with online shopping at times)! All alternative options are also available to purchase directly through these links.

Minimalist Living Room Shoppable Board
*Please note that this post contains affiliate links and any sales made through such links will reward me a small commission – at no extra cost for you. For more details, you can read my Terms and Conditions page.

The items on this concept board were carefully selected to create a successful minimalist look. Neutrals and earthy tones occupy the totality of the colour scheme, which set the seal on the continuity and wholeness of the room. The end result makes for a very calming, soothing and relaxing living room.

When working on developing a minimalist look, bear in mind that "less is more". Which doesn't mean this style is an easier or less exciting style to create. Far from that, in fact. Playing around with the bare necessary design elements without compromising the aesthetics of a space can be quite a thrilling task.

The Products

For this design concept board, I opted for a modern, structured yet inviting grey leather sofa from Crate and Barrel. To go along with this high-quality sofa, I picked some beautiful throw pillows in neutral tones. A pair of two solid white Alcott Hill pillows, made of 100% cotton linen for extra comfort, combined with a grey reversible throw Heathered wool pillow, and a cream, feather-fringed pillow, both from Crate and Barrel. For the middle cushion, I opted for a fun rectangular patterned pillow from EQ3.

I wanted to add natural warmth and texture to the space, and the slabs of weathered mango wood from this gorgeous coffee table from Crate and Barrel accomplish just that. For even more warmth and texture, an oatmeal off-white tufted lounge chair from Wayfair was selected for this concept board.

The white round side tables from Pottery Barn are made of durable concrete. Their simple drummed shape is the perfect fit for this minimalist space. I chose two poufs for this living room, as they both provide a double purpose (seats and footrests). Multi-functionality is key when it comes to curating a minimalist look. As per the lighting, this elegant grey Terrazzo table lamp from Crate and Barrel fits marvelously in this décor.

For the area rug, I wanted something simple yet comfortable and beautiful. This Turkish, 1" pile height in the colour linen from Rugs.ca ticked all the boxes.

Last but not least, the very fun and delightful wall art with the cowboy hats comes from Society6. I opted for a simple and minimal frame for it, to bring the focus on the piece of art itself.

Voila! You now have yourself a lovely minimalist look for your living room, with a free shoppable list to go with it.

I ensured to include some alternative product options, in the event of any product being unavailable or out of stock (a reality that comes with online shopping at times)! All alternative options are also available to purchase directly through these links.

Industrial Look

Industrial Living Room Shoppable Board
*Please note that this post contains affiliate links and any sales made through such links will reward me a small commission – at no extra cost for you. For more details, you can read my Terms and Conditions page.

This concept board is the perfect arrangement for a successful industrial look. The combination of raw materials such as wood, steel, metal and concrete is the perfect recipe for a thriving industrial look. The mix of black, grey, tan and burnt orange is a delightful colour scheme and makes for a healthy balance between neutral and vibrant.

The Products:

One main feature of this living room is the Lenyx Bello grey leather 2-Piece extra large sectional from CB2. It has a very sleek look and is built to last. I have also selected a really modern-looking top grain leather black club chair, to enhance the industrial vibe of the room.

The arrangement of throw pillows strongly reflects the colour scheme and theme of the room. Some pillows have a lively effect, such as the ultra-plush, faux-fur black pillow and the owl pillow, both from Wayfair. The velvet burnt orange pillow adds texture and some extra "pep"  to the lot.

One of my favourite items on this board is the coffee table from Urban Barn. Made of reclaimed wood salvaged from old bridges and buildings in Australia, it is a show stopper and a conversation starter. The side table's surface is made of pinewood and has a metal frame, to reiterate the industrial look even more. Similarly, the bookcase from Crate and Barrel is also a brilliant combination of raw materials. The doors, shelves and drawers are made of solid walnut and the frame of iron.

The black steel wall sconces are a great way to integrate lighting within the industrial theme. The modern pendant lights are very innovative and have a concrete base finish (also available in a wood and concrete finish at Wayfair.)

The wall art selection is a collection of black or wooden framed pieces. I incorporated an element of nature, the feather art piece, which softens the overall look and pairs nicely with the owl pillow.

If space allows, create a cocktail area with a small hairpin-legged dining table and a couple of black bar stools.

And voila! You now have yourself all the necessary items to create your industrial living room!

I ensured to include some alternative product options, in the event of any product being unavailable or out of stock (a reality that comes with online shopping at times)! All alternative options are also available to purchase directly through these links.

Boho Look

Boho Living Room Shoppable Board
*Please note that this post contains affiliate links and any sales made through such links will reward me a small commission – at no extra cost for you. For more details, you can read my Terms and Conditions page.

The items on this concept board were selected with great care to create a successful Boho look. A combo of whites, beiges and greys with a tan accent colour was chosen for an effective natural look.

When decorating a room with a bohemian look, it's imperative to include numerous natural and textural items. For this living room's concept board, I ensured to incorporate several soft, cozy-looking elements. Never shy away from plants, faux-fur and rattan!

The Products

For this design concept board, I opted for the extra-large (for extra comfort!) Forte Channeled Saddle leather sofa, from CB2. The pillows I picked to go on this cozy and deep sofa both have an organic feel to them, with desertic colour tones (also both from CB2).

I don't know about you, but there is something about a good rattan chair that I just absolutely adore. This chair from Crate and Barrel makes no exception to the rule and has a very cushiony padded seat to keep you comfortable while you read a book or sip on your tea.

The wood and white coffee table from Pottery Barn offers warmth and beauty to this living room, while the pillar side table has a more modern look to it. Adding a touch or two of modernity to a more natural look can be a fun and interesting way to personalize the overall style, as long as it doesn't disturb the balance of the room.

For the area rug, I opted for this ivory and grey shag rug from rugs.ca. For any rug in a bohemian setup, the longer the pile, the better!

Creating layers with rugs is big right now, and for a good reason. It adds texture and allows for even more creativity. In this case, I picked this Icelandic sheepskin throw from CB2 as an extra layer to rest your feet on. Speaking of resting your feet, the handmade black and ivory blocked-shaped pouf does just that, in style.

You'll notice the same "X" geometric pattern coming back here and there within the room. Playing with patterns and shapes in such a way creates balance and makes the look of a given room come together nicely.

I thought the wall art pieces from Society6 were a great addition to this living room. Why not integrate some colourful butterflies and a bit of sunshine into a room? Round, coiled handwoven plates are huge right now, especially in a Boho-decorated room. Hang many of them, and play around with their sizes and colours.

Voila! You now have yourself all the necessary items for your refreshing Boho look.

I also included some alternative product options to complement this bohemian style, in the event of any product being unavailable or out of stock (a reality that comes with online shopping at times)! All alternative options are also available to purchase directly through these links.

Scandinavian Living Room Shoppable Board

This living room concept board includes some must-have elements to create a successful Scandinavian-style room. The combination of neutrals with a yellow-orange accent colour really makes for an interesting, eye-catching Scandinavian decor. A blend of items that produces a refreshing and inviting Scandinavian look.

The products

I have selected this beautiful light grey sofa from Wayfair, built with a solid and engineered wood frame. An assortment of black and white throw pillows with geometric patterns have been chosen to pair with the Turkish gray area rug. I always like to pick an accent throw pillow for a little "pop" effect, hence the fluffy Everly Quinn yellow solid pillow.

The wooden framed, grey upholstered accent chair adds warmth and texture to the overall look, while the Slope  Leather Lounge chair from West Elm brings a touch of natural boldness. The handwoven jute pouf adds texture with its compelling zig-zag pattern.

This hickory hardwood flooring from Wayfair is simply gorgeous and will last you forever. As for the lighting, I have selected both a floor lamp as well as a pendant light. This statement black floor lamp from Crate and Barrel will enhance the look of any room! As per the white and wood pendant light, it offers a softer, classically Scandinavian look and pairs really nicely with the black floor lamp.

Lastly, the two black framed wall art pieces from Society6 accentuate the Scandinavian look and embellish beautifully this living room. Along with this pretty, soft-toned wall clock (also from Society 6), the overall art for this room make for a very pleasing, inviting look.
